Crystal Clear Microdermabrasion promises instant visible results and we have clients of all ages coming back again & again for treatments. This is a treatment system that can offer a simple 20 minute ‘Beauty Flash’ providing an instant rejuvenated, fresher texture and lift to tired skin (ideal for a special night out). But to see a real difference in areas that have bothered you for ages, we do a much deeper course of treatments improving problems such as fine lines & wrinkles, acne scarring, sun damage and pigmentation. Our therapist will concentrate on the areas which need most attention & it gives your skin a deep clean, removes dead skin cells and helps to remove blackheads too.

Immediately after the treatment you will noticed a big improvement in the smoothness of your skin. It feels very silky, ultra smooth and quite firm. Your skin will glow, be a lot clearer and very smooth. Some scarring may be reduced, and fine lines will be smoother. For me the improvement in clarity and evenness is the real boon though.

You can accompany a deeper treatment to include the Mini Mask Lift which plumps out lines and wrinkles, firming soothing and softening the skin for a younger, fresher look.

In independent clinical trials, Crystal Clear Microdermabrasion System was conclusively proven to dramatically and visibly improve the texture and appearance of the skin, reducing and smoothing fine lines and wrinkles, producing a smoother, more rejuvenated skin.

Have you ever been taken aback by some of the frozen faces that seem to be getting more and more common? If needles aren’t the anti aging answer you’re looking for, you’ll be thrilled to know that Bio-Ultimate Platinum or Microcurrent technology, is gaining popularity as an alternative to Botox to help firm and tone the muscles, rather than paralyse them. Anne Roberts has been offering this ‘non-surgical’ face lift for several years and many clients swear it has kept them looking younger as it helps to enhance the natural convexities of the face that we associate with youth. One of the best parts of Bio-Ultimate Platinum technology is that results are seen after the first treatment (with a series of treatments recommended for the best results). After only one treatment, a visible lift, contouring and opening of the eye area is quite noticeable, making the Bio Therapeutic a favourite of celebrities and socialites.

The Bio-Ultimate Platinum® features the latest in microcurrent technology development, including the patented technological breakthrough Suzuki Sequencing®. This revolutionary system delivers unsurpassed results, allowing a diverse array of results ranging from firming to the diminishment of the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.

It’s a relaxing, enjoyable and comfortable treatment too!

Welcome to the New Year…

Cold, dry winter weather can cause havoc on skin. To protect your skin from harsh weather conditions (wind, cold, sun) and central heating apply a product like Clarins Extra Firming Skin Care regularly to skin. The day creams or lotion are rich & velvety with a fresh feminine smell of Rose and Camellia This range rapidly moisturizes severely dehydrated skin and increases the appearance of a radiant, rosy glow.

Here are more tips to protect your skin from the winter weather:

Increase your intake of the omega-3 family of healthy fats, including salmon, sardines, anchovies, halibut and take high quality fish oil capsules for supple, smooth skin from the inside out.

Follow an anti-inflammatory diet of high quality protein, lots of fresh fruits and vegetables and healthy fats.

Eliminate harsh cleansers and exfoliators from your skin routine. Replace with a gentle, antioxidant-based cleanser applied with hands and rinse thoroughly with lukewarm water.

Apply antioxidant rich moisturizers, like Clarins Vital Light Day & Night Cream to skin while it is still damp from the shower.

Keep your showers and baths short, and use warm, not hot water.

Skip sugary, starchy foods, which cause an inflammatory response in the body and exacerbate a host of skin problems from wrinkles to dry skin to acne, eczema, rosacea, etc.

Limit alcohol, which will accelerate dehydration, and avoid coffee, as it is a diuretic.

I thought I would remind you of the importance of using sunscreen,
particularly as we have had quite a few ‘sunbathing’ days already this year.
Whilst we all know about protecting our skin, I am still tempted to get a tan
and sit baking in the sun to achieve my goal – but now I am ‘getting on’, I
really do regret the years of lying in the sun for hours on end just to get
temporary colour. While it is important to get some sun exposure during offpeak
hours for health reasons, you can still achieve a golden tan while
preserving the long term health & beauty of your skin. All skin tones are
vulnerable to sun damage from the sun’s ultraviolet rays. So applying
sunscreen at the start of your day should be as automatic as combing your
hair. If your skin is oily, use oil-free sunscreens that will not clog your pores.
Many moisturizers have built-in sun protection. Being faithful to this
philosophy doesn’t mean you can’t or won’t tan, but sunscreen can stop you
burning, helps prevent the formation of free radicals and protects the skin from
premature ageing.

To provide colour to pale skin, try tinted moisturisers or self tanning lotion.
Avoid going out without sunscreen or a hat during the peak hours of 10am to
3pm, because in addition to the risk of skin cancer, UV radiation (whether
from the sun or from a sunbed) can also cause the following:

Loss of skin elasticity
Freckles
Wrinkles
Dry, rough, leathery skin
Broken capillaries on the face
Liver spots on the face, back of hands, arms, chest and upper back

Spots or blemishes on the lower legs and arms

So be sure to protect yourself when going outside. While you may miss
having a deep summer tan now, you’ll appreciate having a lack of sun spots &
wrinkles for years to come.

If you have sensitive skin, try taking medication that increases sensitivity to
the sun and/or plan to have prolonged exposure to the sun, even the highest
SPF will not be adequate to protect your face from visible signs of damage
such as sunburn, increased risk of wrinkles and skin cancer, etc. To help
minimize damage, wear a hat to provide protective shade to your face. Choose
one that doesn’t have a tight fitting band to avoid irritating skin on the
forehead area. Not only will you protect the skin on your face, you’ll protect
the delicate skin on your scalp.

Don’t forget your hands when applying sunscreen. Hands are often one of the
first parts of the body that show age since they get more exposure to the sun
than other parts of the body. Be sure to protect them daily with a UVA/UVB
sunscreen and reapply throughout the day. And don’t skip the sunscreen on
cloudy days, as damaging sun rays are still present. Common ageing
indicators such as brown spots and crepiness can just as easily show up on the
hands as they can on the face.

When it comes to sunglasses, most people think of appearance. Eyes need
protection too. Sunglasses protect your eyes and the skin around them from
sun damage and reduce the risk of cataracts. They also protect the tender skin
around your eyes from sun exposure. What’s the right protection? Lenses that
offer 99-100 percent UVA and UVB protection. Wraparound sunglasses work
best because they also block UV rays from the side.

1. Water

A glass of mineral water first thing in the morning is a wonderful way to greet the
day. Chemical changes in our bodies take place in the presence of water. To
successfully allow nutrients in and waste out, we need to be well hydrated. A
dehydrated body encourages the development of ageing; resulting in puffiness, dry
skin and loss of radiance. Keep it up during the day and you will reap the benefits.

2. Face Changing Foods

If your goal is radiant, firm & glowing skin, energy in abundance, mental clarity and
an overall sense of feeling great, these foods are for you. Their unique combinations
of healthy fats, high quality protein, probiotics and antioxidant rich carbohydrates
help to fight against wrinkles, sagging and loss of tone;

• Salmon, sardines, anchovies, herring, mackerel and other cold water fish
• Free-range poultry
• Eggs from free-range chickens

• Grass-fed, free-range beef or lamb, naturally low in saturated fats
• Complex carbohydrates such as leafy greens, broccoli and oatmeal
• Healthy fats such as avocadoes, olives, extra virgin olive oil, nuts and seeds
• Fresh fruits such as berries, apples and melon and lastly, limit junk and fast foods!

3. Clean Skin

Cleanliness is the foundation of healthy, radiant skin, but don’t overdo it and strip
skin of its natural pH balance. It is essential to use good quality cleansing and
exfoliating products to preserve the skin’s youthful radiance. Choose cleansers &
exfoliators that are gentle and formulated for your skin type, to suit your lifestyle and
taste. Skin should feel and look clean, soft, supple and radiant. Avoid harsh scrubs
which can cause inflammation of the skin. A regular, relaxing facial can do wonders
for the soul, as well as the skin.

4. Sleep

Get enough sleep – at least seven hours. Adequate sleep will restore luminosity to the
skin while improving tone and texture. When we do not get enough sleep, our eyes
will appear puffy, bags and dark circles will appear under the eyes, and fine lines and
an unhealthy pallor will greet us in the morning. During the waking hours, stress can
play havoc with our skin; it is only during the hours of sleep that we can undo these
damaging effects. It is also during the valuable hours of sleep that our cells
rejuvenate, repairing damage of the previous day. In fact, one of the best-kept antiaging
secrets is a good night’s sleep.

5. Go Green

Enjoy a cup of green tea after your meal. There is a compound in green tea called Ltheanine
that acts as a natural mood elevator and promote feelings of well-being.
Because green tea is rich in antioxidants, it can help fight inflammation and ageaccelerating
free radicals, boost the body’s natural defences, and has anti-viral and
anti-bacterial effects.

I love my sleep, but sometimes I find it impossible to get to bed at a reasonable hour
and when I do finally drop off, there just aren’t enough hours left until I hear the
dreaded alarm going off!! I don’t have a good enough sleep routine, and have got into
bad habits such as watching TV or socialising till the wee small hours, which
occasionally includes the (shock horror) drinking of alcohol. All of these factors
contribute to feeling tired, irritable and my ability to concentrate greatly decreased the
following day……but lo and behold I behave in exactly the same way that very evening
– too many distractions and not enough discipline! Now I know that sleep is too
important to short-change, so writing this has made me think again….I will strive to
establish a regular and healthy balance.

Lifestyle choices have a large impact on sleep. If you travel often or have irregular
working hours such as shift work, your sleep quality will suffer, especially as you age.
Aim to go to bed only when you are tired, at roughly the same time each night to help
your body understand when it is time to unwind and drift into sleep. You can quickly
improve your sleep by creating the right environment in your bedroom. Splash out on a
great mattress, make sure you’re warm or cool enough, eliminate noise and remove any
unnecessary electrical devices, such as a TV or laptop, from the room. Pop a few drops
of lavender oil or rose geranium oil onto a handkerchief and place inside your
pillowcase.

The amount of sleep each person needs is dependent on many factors, including age.
Infants generally require about 16 hours per day, while teenagers need 9 hours on
average. For most adults, 7-8 hours a night appears to be the best amount of sleep,
although some people may need as few as 5 hours or as many as 10 hours of sleep
each night. The amount of sleep a person needs also increases if he or she has been
deprived of sleep in previous days. Getting too little sleep creates a “sleep debt,” which
is much like being overdrawn at the bank. Eventually, your body will demand that the
debt be repaid. We don’t seem to adapt to getting less sleep than we need; while we
may get used to a sleep-depriving schedule, our judgment, reaction time and other
functions are still impaired.

A healthy sleep routine is a must for optimal health and great skin. During deep sleep,
many of the body’s cells show increased production and reduced breakdown of
proteins. Since proteins are the building blocks needed for cell growth and for repair of
damage from factors like stress and UV rays, deep sleep may truly be “beauty sleep”.
So try and develop a sensible bedtime regime, your skin will thank you for it!
A study in the US demonstrated that sleep deprivation causes us to overeat. When we
don’t get enough sleep, our levels of ghrelin, a hormone produced by stomach cells and
believed to increase feelings of hunger, increases. Leptin, a hormone produced by our
fat cells that suppresses appetite and burns fat stores, is decreased.

It is easy to see how this can add to overeating and weight gain. In addition, the people
in the study who were the most sleep deprived craved carbohydrate-rich (i.e. most
fattening!) foods, such as sweets, chocolate, pasta & breads, etc. According to the lead
researcher of the study, levels of the stress hormone cortisol were also higher during
sleep deprivation periods than when the study subjects were fully rested. The study
subject’s bodies also metabolised glucose less efficiently. It was concluded that chronic
sleep deprivation may have long-term harmful effects on the body—not the least of
which is weight gain and possible accelerated aging as well.

So, several very good reasons to schedule sleep high on your agenda – May sleep be
with you.

On my never ending quest for weight loss and a good healthy regime, a point that
is constantly brought up is routine and ‘getting into good habits’.

Habits are the things you do, day in and day out, that influence your health the
most and are essential to maintain long term success in your goal to good health.
While it is fine to eat well for one day or to go for a walk once in a while, it is the
little day to day actions that can affect your health the most.

Healthy habits don’t spring up right away but repeating healthy behaviour for three
weeks could help to positively reinforce your daily behaviour. It has been shown
that it takes 21 days to create a habit. So what healthy habit can you try for three
weeks that you want to integrate into your life?

Do you want to try exercising more often? Give a new routine a trial for three
weeks. If you can make the extra effort to work physical activity into your
schedule, it becomes more habitual after three weeks

Habits, of course, are not always positive. They can negatively affect your goals as
well. If you are in the habit of hitting the snooze button when you have set your
alarm clock to wake you up earlier to exercise, that can be considered a habit
(Hmmmmm, I’m saying nothing!). Another bad habit is eating mindlessly while
watching television. Both habits can be broken with a little persistence. Although I
can’t say that I am finding it easy, I am really trying to put my words and thoughts
into positive practice. Remember – small, positive changes make a big difference
long term.

To break bad habits, replace them with new ones. For example, instead of hitting
the snooze button, tell yourself you are going to get up “just for today” to exercise.
It is hard to think about goals early in the morning but if you tell yourself you are
just going to do it for one day, it will be easier to get out of bed. After three weeks
of ‘just trying it for one day’, you will have established a new habit. As for
mindless eating in front of the television, make a deal with your partner and family
that for three weeks television and mealtimes will be separate.

Another way to establish a new habit is to make your new habits convenient for
your lifestyle. As our weather is so unpredictable, plan to exercise indoors. The
routine of exercising will be easier to develop into a habit that way. If you know
that when you leave the office after a long day, the last thing you want to do is
exercise, plan to exercise in the morning a few days a week and during the
weekends, when you are less tired. By doing these things firstly, you get them out
of the way while you’re fresh. This way you are more likely to stick to it long
enough to establish a healthy habit.

What will your healthy habit for 2011 be?
